D.O. (Defy the Odds)

Has already brought much to the rap game, and he’s just getting started. The Toronto-based emcee has honed his artistic skills, creative vision and business acumen to perform at hundreds of shows across North America and sell thousands of CDs.

The journey began in 2003 when D.O. set a Guinness World Record for the longest freestyle rap, clocking in at an astounding 8 hours and 45 minutes. Following that amazing feat and prominent media attention that went along with it, he went on the road performing throughout Canada and the U.S. D.O. toured major cities like Detroit, Atlanta and New York and sold mix tapes out of the trunk of his car.

D.O. released his debut full length album The Northstarr in 2007, which featured the singles Just Forfeit, Young Brother, and Defy the Odds. He was nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award and an Ontario Music Award in 2008 for the success of the debut release.

In the summer of 2009, D.O. released his sophomore album, Stay Driven, featuring production from JUNO nominated producers Classified, Slakah the Beatchild, Marco Polo and Metty the Dert Merchant (Sweatshop Union). Key singles include This Grind, which received more than 20,000 plays on MySpace, and Now I Understand featuring Classified. The video for the single Now I Understand will be released in Spring 2010.

In addition to his solo projects, D.O. is a member of Art of Fresh a hip-hop / soul duo with beatmaker and vocalist Slakah the Beatchild. The group is still enjoying success from their album Back to Earth (2008) which includes the singles Get Free and Back to the Earth. Back to the Earth reached #2 on Canadian college radio charts.

In 2010, Art of Fresh hit number one on the US College Hip-Hop Radio Charts (Rapattacklives) for the single Out This World. The song was also featured in a Volkswagen advertisement in December 2008. The group, who was named as one of URB Magazine’s Next 1000 in Fall 2008, are set to release a new album in spring 2010 along with a new video release for the catchy single Lemonade Stand.

D.O. is an artist and entrepreneur with a creative vision and a hunger for success that is matched only by his ability to deliver relevant music with a message. Legendary MC Chuck D of Public Enemy has said of the artist, “D.O. represents the new breed of MCs putting heat on the status quo of the rap game.”

D.O. is sure to make a lasting contribution to hip-hop scene.

The gifted rapper continues his public speaking circuit in schools across Ontario his Stay Driven program that launched in 2003. Stay Driven is based on D.O.’s own life experiences where he addresses relevant topics such as anti-bullying, peer pressure, and literacy. He is a positive role model for the students and delivers his message in a motivational and interactive forum.

D.O continues his journey to success with his upcoming Stay Driven tour, new Art of Fresh album and two new video releases. He has already achieved great accomplishments with seven videos in rotation on MuchMusic and thousands of YouTube views and MySpace plays. It is just a matter of time before this multi-talented lyricist is a household name.
